Environmental Microscopy

EMS LABORATORIES, INC. participates in the EMPAT program by the AIHA since this program started, for Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing (Lab #10963).

Our services include microscopic identification of nonviable and viable mold as follows:

1. Non-Viable Analysis

a) Air-O-Cell and GrafTech

This service involves microscopic identification and enumeration of spores (e.g. Stachybotrys, Aspergillus, Penicillum and Cladosporium), pollens, insect parts, etc.  The molds and pollens are identified to genus level and the results are expressed in counts per cubic meter of air.

b) Tape-Lift, Swab, & Bulk

This service involves microscopic identification of spores, pollens, insect parts, etc.  The results are qualitatively expressed as trace (1+); Low (2+); Moderate (3+); and High (4+).

a) Air Andersen and Swab

The above samples are cultured on MEA for 5 to7 days, results are reported in colony form units / per cubic meter (CFU/M), certain Aspergillus are differentiated into species level.
