Industrial Hygiene Laboratory

The industrial hygiene laboratory staff focuses on customer's needs by being responsive to their requests and by providing results for samples that are unique to the industrial hygiene community in a timely manner.
EMS has been accredited by the American Hygiene Association since 1986.  EMS is one of the few laboratories that is proficient in all categories of accreditation offered by AIHA.  These analyses include metals, organic solvent, asbestos, silica by x-ray diffraction and passive monitors.

EMS participates in the AIHA proficiency program (ELPAT) for analysis of lead in paint chips, wipes and soils.  EMS is proficient in all categories

Quality Assurance

To maintain reliability and accuracy of results, a stringent quality control program is a major factor.  At EMS, a program of AIHA PAT tests, U.S. EPA Performance evaluation studies, NVLAP bulk and air asbestos proficiency testing, blind samples, and interlaboratory testing programs ensure quality data.  Our performances in PAT rounds and other programs are available upon request.

The following methods are used at EMS:

· National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

· Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

· U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

· American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

· Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC)

Client Services / Media Availability:

EMS' Technical staff is available to answer questions regarding sampling information, media, sample requirements and analytical methods. The client is responsible for proper sampling and providing accurate information. Calculations on concentration are based on information given to the laboratory.

Sample collection media are provided by EMS. Small charcoal tubes and standard filters are provided at no charge. Specialized collection media and passive monitors are available. Call for prices.

Blanks are recommended as standard industrial hygiene practice. They act as controls by determining if contamination has occurred during handling, storage or shipment of samples. The blank is treated in the same way as the sample except that no air is drawn through the blank. One blank should be submitted with every ten or less samples.
