· Identification and optical characterization of particles and fibers of mineral, biological, or synthetic origin in dust, soil, sand, and all types of raw materials and manufactured products.

· Particle size analysis and counting of particulate contamination in hydraulic and lubricating fluids, fuels, air, water.

· Measurement of coating thickness, grain, size, small parts, etc.

· Asbestos detection in insulation and fireproofing materials, plasters, acoustical ceilings, etc. EPA required technique for building materials in schools.

· Refractive index determination of glass and other small particles using oil immersion techniques.

· Asbestos fiber counting of air samples using membrane filters.  NIOSH required technique for workplace exposure monitoring.
